You can manually uninstall the Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) web browser from your computer using Windows. After IE8 is uninstalled, Internet Explorer will revert to a previous version on your computer, typically IE6 or IE7. Internet Explorer 8 is removed using different processes depending on which operating system your computer is running.

      Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 manually in Windows 7. Exit any programs currently running on your computer. Click the "Start" button from your desktop and click the "Control Panel" option in the pop-up menu. Left click the "Uninstall a Program" button under the "Programs" category in the Control Panel. Locate and click the "Turn Windows features on or off" button in the window that appears. Click the box alongside "Internet Explorer 8" to put a check mark in it. Click the "Yes" button in the warning box that pops up. Windows will uninstall IE8 and restart your computer.

      Remove Internet Explorer 8 manually in Windows Vista. Close out of any windows or programs that are running. Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel" in the menu that pops up. Click the "Uninstall a Program" button under the "Programs" heading. Left click on the "View installed updates" button in the window that appears. Double click on "Windows Internet Explorer 8" in the list of updates that have been installed. Click "Yes" when asked if you would like to uninstall the update. Enter the Vista administrator password if Windows prompts you to do so. IE8 will remove its files from your computer. Once complete, restart your computer, and IE8 will be removed from your system.

      Uninstall IE8 manually using Windows XP. Exit out of any open windows and running programs on your computer. Click on the green "Start" button from your desktop and click the "Control Panel" icon in the list that is displayed. Double click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon in the Control Panel. Locate and click "Windows Internet Explorer 8" in the window as soon as the list of installed programs populates. Click on the "Remove" button that appears below the Windows Internet Explorer 8 listing, and Internet Explorer 8 will uninstall from your computer. Reboot your system after the uninstall is finished to remove IE8 from your computer.
