How to Address Wedding Invitations to a Lawyer

Address your wedding invitations properly to people in professional fields.

When addressing wedding invitations, take into account how to correctly address people with positions of stature. If one of your guests holds a position in the profession of law, address her name followed by the abbreviation for the word "esquire." The inner envelope should then contain just the individual's name with no title.

Instructions

1. Address the inner envelope. If your guest is a lawyer, address the inner envelope using Mr., Miss, Ms. or Mrs. and the guest's last name. The title doesn't have to be included in the inner envelope. Place this envelope inside the outer envelope.

2. Address the outer envelopes. Once again, use Mr., Miss, Ms. or Mrs. followed by the guest's first and last name and the abbreviation for "esquire," a lawyer's formal title. For example: Mr. John Doe, Esq., or Mr. and Mrs. John Doe, Esq.

3. Follow the title with the guest's street address, city, state and postal code. Do not use abbreviations.

4. Seal and mail the envelope with the required amount of postage.
