Instructions

    • 1

Decide where exactly in your basement you want your bar to be, and measure the space.

    • 2

Design the bar to fit in the space you've chosen, including the dimensions of the bar itself.

    • 3

Install a sill plate to the floor by drilling masonry screws into the concrete. The sill plate is a pressure-treated 2 x 4 that will act as a barrier between the floor and the frame of the bar.

    • 4

Nail a 36 inch stud to each end of the bottom plate of the frame.

    • 5

Determine how many more studs you'll need by measuring the space between the two end studs and dividing that number by 24 (the studs should be no more than 24 inches apart). Mark off where the other studs will go, and nail them in place.

    • 6

Nail the top plate to the studs.

    • 7

Screw the frame into the sill plate.

    • 8

Measure the bar from the top of the frame to the floor, and cut sheets of plywood to match. Nail the plywood to the outside of the frame.

    • 9

Install any cabinets you want behind the bar.

    • 10

Add the countertop to the bar. If you're using wood, cut it to the measurements on your design; if you're using stone, give the measurements to the manufacturer to cut to specification.

    • 11

      Paint or stain the bar.
