How to Build Office Bookcase
Your office should be the one place where you are organized and can find everything you need to do your job easily. Because of this, you may need to think about adding storage, especially if your office is beginning to get cluttered. One of the most common organizational tools in the office is the bookcase. A bookcase will allow you to keep books and folders in one area while giving you space to display pictures and awards.
Things You'll Need
- Two pieces of 2-by-12, 48 inches long
- Three pieces of 2-by-12, 45 inches long
- One piece 3/4-inch plywood, 48 inches by 48 inches
- Drill with 3/8-inch and screwdriver bit
- 1-inch wood screws
- 3-inch wood screws
- Measuring tape
- Pencil

1
Place a piece of 48-inch 2-by-12 on a building surface so it is standing on one of its 2-inch edges. This is one of the bookcase sides. Create an "L" shape with this piece and a piece of 45-inch 2-by-12. The 45-inch piece will be the book case bottom. Drill three holes through the 48-inch piece into the ends of the 45-inch piece. Place 3-inch screws into the holes and screw the two pieces together.

2
Place the other piece of 48-inch 2-by-12 on the other side of the 45-inch piece so it is parallel to the initial 48-inch piece (this will create a "U" shape). This piece is the other side piece to the bookcase. Drill three holes in the same manner as you did in Step 1, going through the 48-inch piece and into the end of the 45-inch piece and screw 3-inch screws to attach the boards.

3
Measure 12 inches along the 48-inch pieces from the top of the 45-inch piece and make a mark. This is the location of the first shelf. Place another piece of 45-inch 2-by-12 in between the two 48-inch pieces and screw it into place the same way as you did in Steps 1 and 2.
-
4
Repeat this process for the remaining two pieces of 45-inch plywood, measuring 12 inches from the top of the previous shelf, making a mark and screwing the shelves into place.
-
5
Place the piece of 48-inch-by-48-inch plywood over one of the open sides of the shelving unit to form the back of the bookcase. Screw it into place using 1-inch screws spaced every 6 inches around the perimeter.

Tips & Warnings
The top shelf of this bookcase is open which will allow you to securely place items so they are enclosed by the back and the sides of the case. If you want to have a top shelf which rests on the sides of the case, add a 48-inch piece of 2-by-12 to the top and screw it into the top edges of the sides.
