Making an Imperial Knight Costume

Making an Imperial Knight Costume thumbnail
A Star Wars Imperial Knight costume can be made at home in a few simple steps.

The Imperial Knights are characters in the Star Wars universe that are considered "gray," as they draw on forces from both the light and the dark side of the Force. The character's costume is characterized by a red breast plate and a black cape, and can be easy to make at home with a few household items. Combining the costume with a homemade lightsaber provides a complete look.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out two rectangle shapes from a cardboard box that is roughly the size of your torso. Spray paint both of these rectangles with red paint and let dry.

    • 2

Spray paint two shoulder pads with red spray paint and let dry.

    • 3

Attach the two cardboard rectangles to look like a sandwich board. Make two straps using elastic and super glue to attach the two pieces. At the top of the sandwich board, attach one red shoulder pad at each shoulder using super glue.

    • 4

Make a black cape by attaching a piece of string at the top hem of a piece of fabric. Use super glue to secure. Pair the red sandwich board and black cape with a long-sleeve black shirt, black pants and black shoes.

    • 5

Paint the bottom half of a cardboard tube black and paint the top half white. An old wrapping-paper tube will work well. Let dry.

    • 6

Attach various bottle caps to the black half of the tube using super glue. The bottle caps simulate the buttons of the lightsaber.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the costume is for a girl, consider making a pink lightsaber.

  • Take care not to get super glue on your fingers.

  • Let paint dry in a cool space, such as a garage.
