Fluidmaster is one of the leading manufacturers of toilet fixtures and components in the industry. The company's fill valves perform the function of refilling your tank after a toilet flush. A float at the top of the fill valve, called a ball float, raises and lowers with the water level in your tank, automatically refilling it when needed. Installing a Fluidmaster fill valve is a fairly simple operation, and is an ideal project for a plumbing do-it-yourselfer looking to gain some experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the water supply for the toilet. Look on the wall underneath the tank to identify the water supply cut off valve for the toilet. There will be a water supply hose leading from the tank to the valve. Rotate the valve clockwise to shut off the water.

    • 2

Remove the tank lid. Flush the tank to get rid of any water inside. Hold down the handle as you flush to allow all the water inside to escape. Wipe up any excess inside with the sponge and towel.

    • 3

Remove the old fill valve. Unscrew the coupling on the water supply hose and remove from the fill inlet. Use the pliers to unscrew the plastic retaining nut above where the inlet coupling was attached. Remove the old fill valve.

    • 4

Turn the Fluidmaster fill valve upside down. Apply a light coating of silicone grease to the underside of the rubber washer at the bottom of the valve. Turn the fill valve right side up and insert it into the tank. Hold this with one hand. With your other hand, reach under the tank and locate where the bottom of the fill valve exits the tank. Thread the plastic retaining nut into place over this and tighten.

    • 5

Wrap the threads on the inlet with plumber's tape. Trim off any excess with the scissors. Connect the water supply hose coupling and tighten.

    • 6

Restore the water supply. Allow the tank to fill.
