Whatever your reason, by adhering to a few simple rules, towing a car using a tow bar should prove relatively straightforward.

Check the tow bar. Make sure the tow bar is installed correctly and all fittings are tightly fastened. Read the drivers manual to insure the vehicle is capable of towing the weight of the car. Ensure the car is in neutral. This is essential to prevent damage to the car, as the wheels are locked when in gear.

Check that no one is sitting in the car. It is dangerous for someone to ride in a car being towed by a tow bar.

Tell other travelers the car is being towed. Display a clearly visible sign on the rear of the car being towed to inform other travelers.
