How to Join MPGs & Convert to VOB

VOB is the file format for DVD video data

Digital videos that are encoded with either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 compression standards are distributed as VOB files. As with any type of media, it is possible to convert MPG files into another digital video format like VOB. Ultra Video Joiner, iWisoft Free Video Converter and VOBMerge are three examples of software that are capable of joining MPG files and encoding them into a single VOB video.

Instructions

Ultra Video Joiner

1. Run Ultra Video Joiner. Click the "Add Files" icon and browse for the MPG input files in the file-selection window. Select the items and click the "Open" button to import them into the program.

2. Open the "Output Format" pull-down menu. Go to "VCD SVCD DVD Disc" and select the "DVD Compatible MPEG2 Format (*.VOB)."

3. Click the "Join" button to encode the video. A confirmation message will appear when the VOB output file becomes available. Click the "Open" button to access the folder directory for the media.

iWisoft Free Video Converter

1. Run iWisoft Free Video Converter. Click the "Add" icon and browse for the MPG input files in the file-selection window. Select the items and click the "Open" button to import them into the program.

2. Open the "Profile" pull-down menu. Go to "DVD, Others" and select the VOB version for your region. Choose from "DVD Video Format -- NTSC (*.vob)," "DVD Video Format -- PAL (*.vob)" or "DVD Video Format -- SECAM (*.vob)."

3. Check the "Merge into one file" box.

4. Click the "Start" button to encode the video. When the VOB output file becomes available, the program will display the folder directory for the media.

VOBMerge

1. Run VOBMerge. Click the "Add Files" icon, and a file-selection window will appear.

2. Open the "Files of type" pull-down menu and choose "All Files." Browse for the MPG input files in the file-selection window. Select the items and click the "Open" button to import them into the program.

3. Click the "Merge" button, and a file-saving window will appear. Program a saving destination for the VOB output file and give it a name in "File name" field. Click "Save" to encode the video. A confirmation message will appear when the VOB output file becomes available.

Tips & Warnings

• Ultra Video Joiner can be used for free on a limited trial basis, while iWisoft Free Video Converter and VOBMerge are both freeware.
