Unplug the stove from the electrical outlet. For more security, remove the fuse or trip the breaker in the breaker box that supplies electricity to your stove.
-
2
Remove the stove's burner grates and then lift off the stove's top. Some stove tops come completely off, while others are hinged in the back. Also, remove the burner controls so you don't accidentally push them in, because this will release gas.

3
Find the burned-out stove element, which will be next to the burner that doesn't work. Loosen but do not remove the screws that secure the element in place. The element will slide out of position.
-
4
Remove the wires attached to the element by sticking a small screwdriver into the slot located between the wires. Pry the clamp open to take the wire out of its position. When you remove one wire, push it into the position in the new element. Make sure you put it in the same place as it was on the old element. Repeat for the other wires.
-
5
Install the element between the two screws. Tighten the screws to hold the element in place.
-
6
Put the stove top back on along with the burner grates. Reconnect the electricity. Turn in the fuse or push the breaker back in place if you turned the electricity off at the breaker box.
