How to Write .MOV to a CD

How to Write .MOV to a CD thumbnail
Blank CDs are a good way to backup .MOV and other large file types.

Files containing the extension .MOV are video files primarily associated with the Apple software QuickTime. Video files can be much larger than most audio, document and photo file types on your system, and burning these files to a data CD can clear up some space on your hard drive. The most recent versions of Windows and Mac OS X both have native support for burning data CDs with .MOV and other file types.

Instructions

  1. Burning MOV files in Windows Explorer

    • 1

Insert a blank CD into the computer's drive. The AutoPlay dialog box will appear on screen. Click on "Burn Files to Disc."

    • 2

Click the radio button next to "With a CD/DVD player" in the next dialog box and name your disc in the "Disc Title" box. Click "Next." A burn folder will automatically open.

    • 3

Open a new Windows Explorer window and navigate to the .MOV files you want to burn. Drag the .MOV files into the burn folder.

    • 4

Click the "Burn to Disc" button along the top of the window.

    Burning MOV files in Finder

    • 5

Select "New Burn Folder" from the "File" menu in Finder. This will create a folder on your desktop titled "Burn Folder." Change the title as needed by clicking on the folder and pressing "Enter."

    • 6

Open a new Finder window and navigate to the .MOV files you want to burn. Drag the .MOV files into the main window of the burn folder.

    • 7

Click "Burn," located in the top right of the burn folder window. Insert the blank CD into the computer's drive when prompted. Click "Burn" in the dialog box that appears.
