How to Dye the Carpet in a Mustang
Dyeing the carpet of a Mustang will help the original carpet that came with the vehicle to look like new again. Carpet dyeing is best for carpets that have been faded by the sun or have stains that will not lift on their own. Most carpet dyes are not intended to change the color of the carpet completely, but rather to enhance the original color of the carpet. However, you can alter the color completely with the use of bleach.

1
Clean the carpet thoroughly. Vacuum the carpet to remove all dirt and grime. Use a carpet spot remover to remove large spots from the carpet and blot it with an old work cloth. If desired, use a carpet steamer to clean the carpet of all dirt and grime. Allow the carpet to fully dry for at least 24 hours.

2
Decide if you want to bleach the carpet so that you can completely change its color, or if you want to use a dye color slightly darker than the existing color to enhance the appearance of the carpet to make it look new. If you choose to bleach the carpet, wear rubber gloves and safety goggles to protect yourself from the bleaching chemicals.

Create a mixture of one part bleach and four parts water. Use a soft bristled brush to work the bleach mixture into the fibers of the carpet. Work the solution over the entire carpet. The carpet should start to lighten as you work. Wait 24 hours to allow the bleach to fully react with the carpet fibers. Rinse the carpet with clean water. Follow the bleach application with a bleach neutralizing solution to prevent the bleach from changing the dye color. Allow the carpet to dry for 24 hours or until dry.

4
Mix the carpet dye concentrate with water, according to the package directions. Some dyes make 32 ounces of dye when mixed with water; other formulas may have different measurements. Put on a pair of rubber gloves, a dust mask and safety goggles. Roll down the Mustang's windows to allow ventilation in the car.

5
Spray the dye over the entire carpet. Be sure to saturate the fibers as deeply as possible to achieve the best color. Work the dye into the carpet with a soft bristled brush.

6
Allow the carpet to dry for 24 hours or until dry. Vacuum the carpet once more to remove any dye residue from the surface of the carpet.
