How to Add RAM Memory to a Sony VAIO Laptop
If you have a Sony VAIO laptop and want to increase its performance, add RAM memory to the computer. Increasing the memory in your Sony VAIO will speed up the opening of applications and allow you to be more productive by opening more programs at once.
Things You'll Need
- Sony VAIO spec sheet or user's manual
- New SODIMM memory module for the laptop (refer to spec sheet or user's manual for actual memory type)
- Phillips #2 screwdriver
- Anti-static wrist strap

1
Log out of Windows and shut down your Sony VAIO laptop. If using the AC adapter, unplug it and all other cables connected to the VAIO. Flip the Sony VAIO laptop over so you can view the bottom of the computer. Close the LCD screen.
-
2
Locate the memory compartment for the VAIO laptop. The cover for the memory compartment is on the bottom of the unit and is usually next to the battery bay. Many Sony VAIO laptops have a small picture of a memory module on the slot cover in order to make it easier to identify.

-
3
Unlock the battery and remove it from the VAIO laptop.
-
4
Remove the retaining screw for the memory slot cover with the Phillips screwdriver. Set the slot cover aside.
-
5
Slide the anti-static wrist strap on, then clip the other end to a metal object to avoid damaging the computer or memory module with an electrostatic discharge.
-
6
Remove the new memory SODIMM module from its antistatic packaging. Hold the module on the edges and avoid touching the silver or gold edges on the piece of memory.
-
7
Line up the metal edge of the memory module with the memory slot and ensure the notches align. Hold the SODIMM module at about a 30-degree angle with the memory slot, then push the module into the slot.
-
8
Rotate the module downward until it clicks into the captive clips in the slot.
-
9
Replace the memory compartment cover and tighten the retaining screw. Slide the battery pack back into place and lock it. Turn the laptop back over, then connect the AC adapter and other cables.
-
10
Open the LCD screen and power on the Sony VAIO laptop. Use the computer as you normally would.
