How to Adjust Firmware on a Sony Camera
Sony camera firmware adjustments are made by downloading and installing firmware updates. These updates give the user more options in functionality than what came with the camera originally. Before loading a firmware update to your Sony camera, make sure that the battery is fully charged or is attached to an AC power source.

Download the firmware file. Go to the Sony website (see Resource). Enter your specific model number. Click the arrow to continue. Click on "Drivers & Software." Select your operating system and click the arrow to continue. Select "Firmware" and click the arrow to continue. Click the icon under "Download File Now." Click the icon under "Download File." Click "Save File."

Turn on your camera. Press the "Menu" button and choose "Settings" from the options. Insure that the USB Connection is set to "Mass Storage." Use the up and down arrows to make the change if needed. Turn off the camera.

Click on the downloaded file to begin the update process.

Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable that came with the camera. Turn on the camera.

Click "Next" on the "Firmware Updater" screen to begin the process.

Check to make sure on the second screen that you are indeed installing a newer version of the firmware. If so, click "Next."

Click on the "Remove Hardware" icon on the Windows Taskbar in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Stop the USB drive, using the Remove Hardware Wizard. Do not disconnect the cable from the USB port.

Press the "Center Button" of the control wheel on your Sony Camera to reset the camera.

Click "Next" in the Update program to proceed to the next screen.

Click "Run" on the next screen. This will install the firmware upgrade to your camera. Click on "Finish" when the process is complete.

Turn off the camera and remove the USB cable from both the camera and your computer.

Tips & Warnings
To find out if a firmware update is available, click on "Support" from the menu of the Sony Style website. Type in your model of camera on the support screen. Updates will be posted.
If you do not need to update the firmware, click on the "Remove Hardware" icon and stop the USB connection in the Remove Hardware Wizard, then click on "Finish."
