Becoming a Toyota dealer can be a very lucrative venture once all of the requirements have been met. There are many programs available to assist you in the transition from laymen to licensed dealer. Familiarize yourself with the necessary licensing requirements; enlist in the proper training programs, apply for a dealers license through the department of labor, and you will be well on your way to becoming a licensed Toyota dealer.

      Learn the laws regulating dealer licensing in your area by calling the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). They will inform you of all training programs, testing and applications that need to be completed before you can become a licensed dealer.

      Apply for the Toyota's Dealer Development Program. Through this program, Toyota provides aspiring dealers with operational support, investment capital, and management training. Toyota also partners with the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to better develop a multi-disciplinary approach that helps to better prepare minorities and women to become successful Toyota, Scion, and Lexus dealers. To ensure there is equal opportunity employment, Toyota employs a diverse array of cultures to sit on both National Dealer Councils.

      Apply for a surety bond. A surety bond is set in place to protect the consumer from fraudulent or unprofessional activity on your part. In addition to making customers feel more secure about doing business with you, This may require you to go through a background check.

      Complete all license verifications and submit all the proper files and applications to the Department of Labor in request of a Dealer license. Your state may require a background check, which many now require, complete and pass that to the application as well. Contact the DMV to clarify whether you're missing anything. Once you are approved, you'll receive a temporary license. This will allow you to use dealer plates on all of the vehicles you purchase, if you so choose.
