How to Make a Homemade Etch a Sketch
An Etch a Sketch is a classic toy that allows users to create their own images and then shake the images away and start over. It is like having a fresh canvas to write, draw or doodle on whenever you want. You can create your own homemade Etch a Sketch with just a few simple items you probably already have around the house.
Things You'll Need
- Hair gel
- Tempera paint
- Zipper freezer bag
- Square plastic container lid
- Duct tape
- Glitter
Instructions
-

1
Mix 1/2 cup of hair gel with 2 tbsp. of tempera paint of any color. Mix this in a bowl you will not use again as the tempera paint may stain.
-
2
Fill the zipper freezer bag half full of the hair gel and tempera paint mixture. Close the bag.
-
-
3
Put the freezer bag of colored mixture onto the plastic container box lid. If the bag has any writing on it, place that side down so that the side that is completely clear is facing up.
-
4
Secure the freezer bag's edges onto the square lid with duct tape. Make sure the opening of the freezer bag is closed and very secure with tape so that no paint mixture leaks out.
-
5
Write, draw and sketch onto the bag of paint mixture with your fingers. The contents act like an Etch a Sketch which you can "erase" by simply moving the bag around.
