How to Fix Error 17 on Laptop
The Runtime Error 17 is an error connected to the Windows registry system. The Windows registry is an area on your computer that stores data on programs, saved changes and computer components, among other things. Each time you download a program and then remove it from your computer, remnants of the program are still present in the Windows registry. These remnants will accumulate with each program removal and clog up the Windows registry files, causing conflicts and corruptions. To fix error 17, you will need to run a registry scan-and-repair tool. The procedure for laptop computers is the same as desktops. There are free registry repair programs available to undertake this task.

Go to the CCleaner Web page and download the software. (The Resources section contains page link.) Find the downloaded file and double-click it to run. Follow the installation wizard to install the software onto your computer.

Find the CCleaner desktop icon and double-click it to run.

Click the "Registry" icon and click "Scan for Issues." The registry scan will initiate.

Place a check mark by all registry errors detected and click "Fix Selected Issues." Click "Yes" in the prompt to back up your registry system.

Click "Fix All Selected Issues." Afterward, click the "OK" button in the "Fix All Selected Issues?" dialogue box to repair the registry.

Download the Eusing Registry Cleaner from the program's Web page (see Resources). Locate the downloaded file on your system and double-click the file to run it. Follow the program's installation wizard to install the program onto your computer.

Find the Eusing Registry Cleaner icon on the desktop and double-click it to run the program.

Go to the "Select the Sections to Scan" category and insert check marks by the options in this category.

Click the "Scan Registry Issue" option under the "Tasks" section.
