Wording for a 40th Birthday Party

Fortieth birthday celebrations are often considered milestones in a person's life. Often, we jokingly refer to people as "over the hill" when they reach this age. When throwing a 40th birthday party, the way you word the invitation will serve to entice the prospective guests to attend the event. With a bit of creativity, you can create a well-worded invitation that will suit the personality of the individual who is turning the big "4-0."

Instructions

1. Word the invitation in a joking manner for honorees who appreciate humor, such as "John may be 'over the hill' as he turns 40 but he still wants to party!" Or put a positive spin on the occasion with a baby picture of the guest of honor on the front of the invitation with the words "Guess who's turning 40?" On the inside of the invitation, you can write, "John Thompson is officially all grown-up!"

2. Entice the invitees to attend the event by further stressing that this is a milestone in the guest of honor's life with wording such as "Join us at 1234 Hillside Dr. on September 20th at 6 p.m. for an occasion four decades in the making."

3. Request that guests let you know if they will attend. You can phrase it along the lines of "RSVP by September 13th if you want to be a part of this momentous event as John turns the big 4-0!"

Tips & Warnings

• Consider the honoree's feelings when wording the invitation. There's a difference between wording the invitation in a light, unoffensive way and being sarcastic.
