How to Change The Belts on A Dyson Animal
Dyson corporation has a range of vacuum tools marketed under the "Animal" moniker, since they are specifically designed for pet hair removal. There are several upright models, a canister style machine and a hand-held unit on the market as of the fall of 2010. Dyson provides a five-year parts and labor warranty for their vacuums and highly encourages that the units be serviced by the company itself or its agents during this period. They reinforce this preference for professional servicing and repair by making the replacement belts hard to come by and slightly more difficult to replace compared to other vacuum cleaner brands, however, it is possible to change the belt yourself. - Replacement belt specifically for your Animal model
- Large flathead screwdriver

Turn off and unplug your Animal from its power source.

Lay the vacuum on its back to expose the bottom and position the machine so you have easy access to the bottom with good light.

Loosen each of the bottom three screws by a quarter turn in a counter-clockwise direction.

Pull and twist the sole plate covering the beater bar gently to remove it, setting it aside within reach.

Slide the shaft of your large screwdriver through the belt loop if the belt is still in one piece, and pull gently to slide the belt off of its rotor track. If the belt has snapped, simply grab one of the exposed ends and pull gently to remove it.

Slide the brush beater bar out of the unit. Loop a new belt over the exposed thick metal pin on the motor side and stretch the other end of the belt over the rotor end of the beater brush bar.

Slide the beater brush bar back into the unit until it snaps securely in place. Rotate the beater bar with your hand to ensure that it rotates smoothly without obstruction.

Replace the sole plate cover centered over the beater bar until it clicks into position. Tighten the three screws a quarter turn in a clockwise direction to secure.
