1
Separate the two pieces of your planter if they are attached. Buy them separately if you want to save a step.
-
2
Make a design out of dots on the outside of the pot, using just the tip of the marker. Follow the design of the planter if it has a cut design.
-
-
3
Drill one-quarter-inch holes in the bowl portion of the plastic planter where you marked the dots.
-
4
Repeat the drawing and drilling with the bottom tray of the planter.
-
5
Read all the directions that come with your light kit to see what size hole you need to insert the socket through the hole.
-
6
Use the hole saw kit to drill a hole in the bottom of the bowl of the planter for the light socket.
-
7
Insert the socket into the hole in the bottom of the planter bowl. Screw in the light bulb. Test the light bulb by plugging in the cord to make sure the light kit works.
-
8
Place the bottom tray of the planter on the top edge of the bowl, which will wind up being the bottom of the planter light. Use four clips to hold the two pieces of the planter together, which gives you easy access when you want to change the light bulb.
-
9
Hang the planter party light from the end where you inserted the light bulb.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to make your lights colorful, hot glue colored beads to the holes. Use three-corner beads and stick one corner into the hole, securing it in place with the hot glue.
If you cannot find clips with which to secure your planter light together, you can also use screws. Drill four holes, evenly spaced around the lip of the planter bowl. Drill four holes in the tray of the planter that correspond with the holes in the lip of the bowl. Insert the screws and tighten with bolts if necessary.
