You can dye white roses using blue food coloring.

Roses come in an array of colors such as red, pink, yellow and white. However, as pretty as blue rose would be, real blue roses are not currently available. There are some purple roses that may have a blue tint depending on the light but not a true blue rose. You can make your own blue roses, if you would like to use them for a special occasion or to give to someone who likes the color blue. Does this Spark an idea?

  • White rose
  • Blue food coloring
  • Water
  • Scissors
  • Vase

Instructions

    • 1

      Fill a vase or container with a small amount of water.

      Add drops of blue food coloring into the water until you have the desired shade of blue.

      Snip 1/2 inch off of the stem of the white rose or roses you plan to dye.

      Place stems in the water. Within 24 to 28 hours, the white roses will pull the coloring up through their stems and into their petals, turning the flowers blue.

    • 5

      Take the blue roses out of the food-colored water and place in a fresh water mixed with flower preservative powder to extend the life of your blue roses.
