Flash files are used in advertisements.

The Shockwave Flash Player is a free software program that actives flash files, also called "OCX" files. The Flash player allows small animations to work within web browsers. Many ad programs use flash objects to capture someone's attention when he or she is surfing the Internet. These pop-up animations can get annoying after awhile, so some people prefer to simply disable the Flash player. Disabling the Flash player is only temporary, and you can re-enable it at any time.

Instructions

  1. Mozilla Firefox Browser

      Open the Firefox browser.

      Go to "Tools" > "Add-ons" > "Plugins".

      Click on "Shockwave Flash" and press the "Disable" button beneath it.

    Internet Explorer Browser

    • 4

      Open your Internet Explorer browser.

    • 5

      Go to "Tools" > "Internet Options" > "Program".

    • 6

      Click on "Manage add-on options" > "Filters" > "Adds-ons that run without requiring permission".

    • 7

      Click on "Shockwave Object" and then press "Disable".
