How to Upgrade Avid Xpress Pro to Media Composer
Avid Xpress Pro is the lighter, more compact version of the Avid Media Composer editing program. Although similar, Xpress Pro does not have many of the same features or effects that come with Avid Media Compose, nor is it able to render as much information as the larger Media Composer. If you are looking to upgrade from Avid Xpress Pro to Avid Media Composer you do need to purchase the full version, as the programming comes with an installation dongle that must be connected at all times to install the programming.

Insert the Avid Media Composer installation CD into the disc drive of the computer system. Close out the Avid Xpress program, if you have it open. Wait a moment and the installation wizard loads onto the screen.

Click "Next" on the welcome page, then insert the installation dongle into one of the USB ports on the computer.

Type in the activation code printed on the cardboard segment that is attached to the dongle. Do not remove this as you may need the code later, if you ever need to reinstall the program.

Select "Next," then leave the installation name and location as-is. Accept the end-user agreement, then click "Install" and Avid Media Composer installs directly onto the computer system.

Restart the computer and you are ready to begin using the upgraded video editor.
