Key fob remote-control door-locking devices are popular accessories on most cars around the world; they had become standard equipment on most new cars by the early 2000s. Chevrolet key fob remotes allow you to lock and unlock your doors without using your car's door key, and to sound your panic alarm in dark or busy parking lots. Certain key fob remotes will open or close your trunk, or start your car from a distance. If you drive a Chevrolet with keyless-entry technology, you can program the remote yourself. You can program several remote-control key fobs at once, as long as you intend to use them all for the same car.

Instructions

      Insert your key into the Chevy's ignition and turn it to the "Run" position, one click short of turning the car on.

      Locate the data port in your car's trunk. This will be in the rear of the trunk on the driver's side; you can expose it by peeling back some of the trim.

      Connect terminal 4 and terminal 8 on the data port with a jumper wire. If not numbered, these terminals are the fourth and eighth from the left on the top of the port, respectively.

      Wait for the vehicle to recognize the connection by cycling the locks and starting the programming sequence.

      Press and hold the unlock and lock buttons on your remote for up to 15 seconds until the locks cycle again.

      Release the buttons and repeat Step 5 with any additional remotes, then disconnect the jumper wire to end the process.
