How to Set Up Satellite Laptop Monitors

How to Set Up Satellite Laptop Monitors thumbnail
Using multiple monitors with your laptop can be very simple to do.

Using one external monitor with your Toshiba Satellite laptop makes working in two documents much easier. Working with three (or more) monitors can make certain projects much more convenient, as well, reducing the need to constantly switch between windows and tabs. Toshiba laptops come equipped to easily support more than one monitor, though extra monitors after the first addition will need some extra hardware.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the first external monitor to your laptop by plugging in the cable with the large blue adapter to the VGA port on the side of your laptop. The port may or may not have screw holes into which you can tighten the plug; if not, make sure that the connection is snug.

Plug the first monitor's power cord into an electrical outlet. Open "Display Settings" by right-clicking on the desktop, clicking on "Personalization" (or "Properties") and clicking on the number "2" box. Click "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" and hit "Apply."

    • 3

Connect the second external monitor to a USB 2.0 port by plugging the monitor's cable end into the VGA/DVI portion of the adapter. Plug the other end of the adapter into one end of the USB cord and the cord's other end into a USB port on the side or back of your laptop.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to use more than two external monitors with your Toshiba Satellite, be sure to purchase a USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI adapter that can support more than one external monitor.
