How to Make Dock Icons

Mac computers allow users to change every icon, be they folder icons or application icons, with their own icons. Making Mac icons is easy because any picture you have on your Mac can be used as an icon for any application or folder. Dock icons are just the icon of the application they are representing so they can be made in the same way.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hard drive and open the "Applications" folder. Open "Preview." Select "Open" from the "File" menu and choose the picture on your Mac that you want to make a Dock icon out of. Click "Open."

    • 2

Select "Copy" from the "Edit" menu.

    • 3

Open the hard drive and open the "Applications" folder. Click on the application you want to change the icon of once. Select "Get Info" from the "File" menu.

    • 4

Click on the icon of the application in the upper left-hand window. Select "Paste" from the "Edit" menu. The picture you copied will replace the normal application icon. Close the "Get Info" window.

    • 5

Click on the new icon and drag it to the Dock on your Mac's screen. Drop the icon onto the Dock.
