How to Change a Laptop Fan
Replacing the fan in your laptop is an important task if the existing one isn't working. It's the fan's job to keep the computer cool, and without a working fan, you risk overheating, and the consequences that come with it. A hot computer doesn't have nearly the life of a computer that is adequately cooled. When your computer overheats, it may melt some of the internal circuitry, or cause hard drive or motherboard failures.

1
Open the rear compartment on your laptop. This varies by model, but generally you close the laptop lid, turn it upside down, and search the rear for entry points. Some laptops require you to unscrew the back to get to it, others have tabs or buttons that allow you to pop the cover right off.
-
2
Seach for your existing fan. The fan in most laptops is a plastic model, and it's relatively flat. It shouldn't be hard to find.
-
-
3
Unplug your existing fan.
-
4
Remove your old fan. Some fans just pop right out, while others require that you unscrew them. Try to pop it out first, but don't apply enough pressure to break the fan. If it doesn't pop out relatively easily, you need to start searching for screws or clips that are holding it in place.
-
5
Plug your new fan in.
-
6
Secure it to the same spot that your old fan was in. If your old fan popped out, pop this one in its place. If you needed to unscrew it, be sure to screw this one in.
-
7
Replace the rear cover.
