How to Know If the Water Valve to the Ice Maker Is Off?
Ice makers are convenient kitchen devices that keep a steady supply of ice ready for drinks. Some ice makers are built into freezers, like those in many homes, while free-standing ice makers are used in commercial kitchens and restaurants. The critical element in both types of ice makers is a water line that supplies water to the ice trays. Grasp the ice maker or the refrigerator and gently pull it away from the wall so that you have room to work. In the case of a refrigerator, you may need another person to assist with the process. You also need enough room so that you can fit behind the machine.

Look at the wall behind the ice maker or refrigerator for a copper pipe or tube that extends to the machine.

Locate the handle that is attached to the wall just above the copper pipe, which is the water supply valve. In some cases, the valve handle will be oval-shaped, like other household water shut off valves. In other cases, it will simply be a rod that is shaped like a "T."

Place your hand on the valve knob and try to turn it clockwise. If the valve will not move, it is in the "Off" position and no water is being supplied to the ice maker.
