How to Play Pokemon Fossil Cards

Play the Mysterious Fossil card in the Pokemon Trading Card Game to use rare, extinct Pokemon such as Aerodactyl or Kabuto. It is a common card found in the Fossil series of the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It acts as a combination of a trainer card and a basic Pokemon card. You can play it either at the beginning of the game or during gameplay, so long as you have free space on your bench for an additional Pokemon.

Instructions

    • 1

Play the card Mysterious Fossil when laying out your bench and active Pokemon at the beginning of the game. Note that you're allowed only one active Pokemon and five benched Pokemon at any one time, and Mysterious Fossil counts toward this total.

    • 2

Alternatively, play the card Mysterious Fossil on your bench at the beginning of any turn. You can play the card after drawing a card from your deck and before attacking.

    • 3

Evolve your Mysterious Fossil card into an extinct Pokemon such as Aerodactyl or Kabuto by playing an evolution card on top of the Mysterious Fossil card. Note that you must wait at least one turn after playing the Mysterious Fossil card to do so, since Pokemon can't be evolved on the same turn in which they were put into play.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only evolution cards with the Mysterious Fossil card's image in the upper left hand logo, accompanied by the caption "Stage 1," can be placed on top of the "Mysterious Fossil" card.

  • The Mysterious Fossil card cannot be affected by any status-inducing attacks as it cannot be put to sleep, paralyzed or poisoned.

  • The Mysterious Fossil card only has 10 hit points and cannot retreat, so it's best to only play the card on the bench (rather than the active area) and only when you have one of its evolutions ready to play.
