1
Decide on a spot for the smoke detector. Smoke rises so you will need to find a place on the ceiling or near the ceiling on the wall. If the area is also used as a bedroom or sleeping area, the U.S. Fire Administration recommends that smoke alarms be placed both inside and outside the room.
-
2
Place a ladder under the area where the smoke detector will be installed. Even with a raised floor, it is important to have proper leverage to screw the smoke detector into the wall.
-
-
3
Use a screwdriver and screws to attach the mounting plate to the wall. The mounting plate will allow you to easily remove and reinstall the smoke detector to change the batteries.
-
4
Place batteries in the smoke detector. Check the test button on the smoke detector to ensure that it works.
-
5
Slide the smoke detector into place on the mounting plate. In many cases the smoke detector simply twists into place.

Tips & Warnings
Check the manufacturer directions for the smoke detector. It is important to follow the directions to ensure that your home will be protected. In addition, some smoke detectors do not require a mounting plate because they are outfitted with an adhesive on the back that allows you to peel and stick the smoke detector in place.

I think you missed the point, it would seem that a smoke detector needs to be installed beneath the raised floor to detect smoke beneath the floor which may not rise to the ceiling above.
