I Can't Change the Security Passphrase on Vista Wireless Network Properties

If your computer isn't allowing you to change the security passphrase that is stored in the memory of a wireless network file in the Windows Vista operating system, this is because your account does not have the administrator authority needed to do this. You can combat this issue and edit your passphrase by running the Windows Vista Network and Sharing Center as an administrator. You can do this without logging out of your current account.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Click "Control Panel."

    • 3

Right-click "Network and Sharing Center." Select "Run as Administrator." If prompted, enter the administrator password for your computer.

    • 4

Click "Manage Wireless Networks." Right-click the network that contains the passphrase you want to share. Click "Properties."

    • 5

Click "Security." Change the passphrase by removing the phrase currently typed into the "Password" box and typing in the new one you want to use. Click "OK" when you're done.
