How to Find Linux Applications
Linux software applications that are packaged specific to a type of distribution are preferred for ease of installation and updating. Hence, when searching for an application that fits a particular need, find application packages designed specifically for the Linux distribution and version in use to ensure a trouble free installation. Fortunately, most Linux distributions now provide a software installation program that simplifies the process of searching for and installing software application packages.

- Administrator or root password

Find Software for Ubuntu

Click the "Applications" menu and then click the "Ubuntu Software Center" icon.

Click the "Get Free Software" icon.

Click in the search box located to the right of the "Get Free Software" text. Type the name of the software application you wish to find and install. Press the "Enter" key to view the list of applications found using the search feature.
Find Software for Fedora

Click the "System" menu, then click "Administration" and then click "Add/Remove Software."

Click in the search box (it has a magnifying glass icon). Type the name of the software application you wish to find and install.

Click the "Find" button to view the list of applications found that match your query.
Find Software for OpenSUSE

Press "ALT + 2." A command line window will appear.

Type "yast" (without quotes) and press the "Enter" key. Type the root password when requested and press the "Enter" key.

Click the "Software" tab in the "Yast Control Center" window. Select "Software Management," then select the "Search" tab. Type the name of the software application you wish to find and install and then click the "Search" button to view a list of the applications found by using the "Search" feature.
