How to Become a Repo Agent in NYC

Repossession agents, or repo men, are individuals who take back property from owners who can't pay back their loans. Once the lending agency has decided that the loan isn't going to be properly paid, the company contacts a repossession agency and gives them the details of the case. Repo men then go out and reclaim the property. Becoming a repo man in New York City is surprisingly easy, as it's one of the places that repo men aren't licensed by the state.

• Commercial driver's license
• Clean driving record

Instructions

1. Get your commercial driver's license (CDL) if you do not have one already. You will also need a clean driving record in order to get a job as a repossession agent in New York City. If you have both of these things, then you essentially have all of the paperwork you need; New York does not distribute licenses to repossession agents.

2. Apply for a job with repossession agencies. Each agency will handle employee training according to that company's policies, which have to be in accordance with both state and federal laws. If you don't have previous experience or training, the repossession company will take care of that.

3. Complete your training once you're hired by a repossession agency. Once this is done, you have all of the tools and knowledge that you need to be a repossession agent in New York City.
