Instructions for a Dell Flat Panel

A monitor is a necessary component for using a computer. Flat-panel computer monitors are different from their cathode-ray tube (CRT) predecessors. Many use liquid-crystal display (LCD) technology. This allows them to be quite slimmer than CRTs. The computer manufacturer Dell sells flat-panel monitors such as the 2005FPW. Operating your Dell flat-panel monitor requires connecting it properly to your computer. Becoming familiar with the front-panel buttons will help you to adjust monitor settings.

Instructions

  1. Connecting the Monitor

    • 1

Turn off your computer's central processing unit (CPU).

    • 2

Disconnect the power cable from the CPU.

    • 3

Connect either the Dell flat panel's white (digital DVI-D) or the blue (analog D-sub) display connector cable to the matching video port on the back of your CPU. Do not use both cables on the same computer.

    • 4

Attach the USB cable to the Dell flat panel and the CPU by plugging each end into a USB port. One end should plug into the flat-panel monitor and the other end should plug into the CPU.

    • 5

Connect the power cable for your Dell monitor to the power port on the back of the monitor.

    • 6

Plug the power cable back into your CPU.

    • 7

Plug the power cable for the Dell flat panel into a power-supply outlet.
