How to Build a Horseshoe Pit Platform
The game of horseshoes is played in a "pit," equivalent to a court. There are various elements, including the stake, extended platforms and the foul line. The pitching platform in a horseshoe pit is where the player throws the horseshoe and tries to hook it on the stake that is forty feet away. A regulation horseshoe pit includes a pitching platform--a rectangle on the ground rather than a raised platform--that is around 1.5 feet wide.

1
Measure the horseshoe pit by thoroughly inserting two stakes into the ground at a 40-foot distance. The frame of the entire pit should be 48-feet long by six-feet wide and can be delineated by wooden poles or drawn with chalk on the grown. Two foul lines sit at 27 and 37 feet in front of each stake.
-
2
Use the tape measure to mark spots at both 18 and 36 inches in front of each stake. These are the front and back of the two-foot long pitchers platforms. The sides of the platform are the sides of the pit as a whole.

3
Draw parallel lines with your chalk on the ground so that the rectangular platform measures two feet by six feet. The chalk rectangles run parallel to each other as well and face each other long ways. These lines run through the marked spots at 18 and 36 inches in front of the stake and hit the long outside edges of the pit at a perpendicular.

Re-draw the lines of the platform as needed. The game of horseshoes includes roughing up the grass and sand and the pit often needs to be detailed after each game.
