How to Export Internet Options

Web browsers store a multitude of information about your browsing preferences and experience such as your favorite websites, most visited websites and visited websites. You may want to backup these preferences in the event that a system restore is necessary on the computer or to copy your Internet options to another computer. Internet Explorer will allow you to select the option to export preferences and browsing information within the "File" menu. Mozilla Firefox requires software to export or backup these settings.

Instructions

  1. Internet Explorer

      Open Internet Explorer and click on the "File" menu.

      Select "Import and Export Wizard." Hit "Next."

      Choose the options you want to export (e.g., "Favorites" or "Cookies").

      Select what files in that option you want to export. For example, you may only want to export one particular folder and its contents within the Favorites menu. Hit "Next."

      Select the "Browse" button and choose a location to export the options. Click "OK."

    Firefox

      Download and install MozBackup. Launch MozBackup.

      Choose the "Backup" option.

    • 8

      Select a save location for the backup files when prompted.

      Follow any additional prompts to create the backup file.
