Update a Bluetooth stack.

Bluetooth technology will let you connect a number of Bluetooth-enabled devices to your computer, including a mouse, keyboard and headset. When newer devices hit the market, often the Bluetooth software, or "Stack," needs to be updated so the newer devices can connect without complications. You will need to check the manufacturer of your Bluetooth software to download the appropriate update.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and type "Device manager" in the search box. Click on the "Device Manager" link.

    • 2

Double-click on the "Bluetooth" option to show all Bluetooth devices installed on your PC. Right-click on the device in the list and select "Properties."

    • 3

Look under the "Driver" tab for the driver provider name and driver version. Write down these details.

    • 4

Open up your Web browser and visit the website of the driver provider (the company that makes the Bluetooth stack). The newest drivers will be located on the company's website. Most computers use the Bluetooth stack provided by either Toshiba or Widcomm.

    • 5

Search the download or support website for the newest Bluetooth software. Find the version of Windows you are running, as different versions of the operating system require different software.

    • 6

Compare the latest software available online with the version number you currently have installed. If you have the newest update, you don't need to install anything. If the online update is newer than the version you are running, click the download button and save this software to your computer.

    • 7

Double-click on the Bluetooth stack if it is a self-installing program. Some software will automatically update itself with the use of a self-install. If so, follow the on-screen prompts and agree to the install. If the downloaded Bluetooth stack is not a self installer, then continue below.

    • 8

Go back to your Device Manager, following the instructions in Step 1, and right-click on the Bluetooth device again. Select "Update Driver Software."

    • 9

Click "Browse My Computer for Download Software," then click the "Browse" button. Point to the Bluetooth files you downloaded online and click "OK," then click "Next."
