How to Highlight Brown Hair with a Highlighting Kit
Highlighting brown hair with shades of blond or a lighter shade of brown is a way to add depth to hair color. "Cosmopolitan" magazine recommends coloring primarily the tips of hair and staying within one or two shades of your color to look more natural. Generally, hair is colored lighter in the spring and summer, and tones that are closer to the natural or dark color are used during the fall and winter. As regular visits to a salon can be expensive, highlighting your own hair at home can be a valuable skill. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings
Consider wearing old clothing in case you drop bleach mixture on yourself or wearing a smock that covers your clothing. Highlighting is much easier if a friend assists, particularly on the back of the head. If coloring particularly fine strands, "Cosmopolitan" magazine recommends using a cotton swab, rather than the applicator included in the kit.
