How to Repair a Flash Disc

Flash discs, also called flash drives or thumb drives, are portable storage devices that hold a couple of gigabytes of information. They can be used on any computer with a USB port. When your flash disc has corrupted information, you can format it to its default settings. This will clean the corrupted information off the disc and allow it to work like it normally should, without error.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the flash disc into the computer's USB port. Most computers have a few USB ports on the back and front, so there should be at least one open for the disc.

    • 2

Click the Windows icon located in the bottom left corner of the screen. Select "Control Panel" and click on it.

    • 3

Click on "System and Security." Pick "Administrative Tools." Under this screen, double-click "Computer Management."

    • 4

Click "Disk Management" to see a list of all storage drives connected to the computer. Right-click the flash disc and left-click "Format."

    • 5

Click the "OK" button on the next two screens to confirm that you want to format the flash disc.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before formatting the flash disc, copy any information off of it that you want to keep.

  • Flash discs must be kept away from direct sunlight as this will corrupt the data contained on them.
