How to Make a GIF in IrfanView

Use IrfanView to open, edit and save photos.

IrfanView is a free software application for viewing, editing and converting many graphic file types, including BMPs, JPGs and GIFs. Unlike other image types, you can use the GIF image format to create animated images, such as single-file slideshows or simple drawn animations. GIF images also typically have smaller file sizes and support transparency, so converting an existing image into a GIF with IrfanView can be helpful even if you do not require animation.

Instructions

1. Download, install and launch IrfanView.

2. Choose "Open" from the "File" menu.

3. Double-click on the existing image file you want to convert into a GIF.

4. Resize or annotate the image to your liking, if necessary.

5. Choose "Save As" from the "File" menu.

6. Change the image output drop-down box to "GIF." Click "Save."
