How to Refill a Dell 7Y743 Ink Cartridge

Refilling the ink for your Dell printer will save you money.

The Dell 7Y743 ink cartridge works with Dell All-in-One Printers A940 and A960. Because buying a new cartridge is expensive, you could use refill kits to reuse your ink cartridge when the ink runs out. When purchasing, check that the refill kit is specifically labeled for use with a Dell 7Y743 ink cartridge. The manufacturer might label the black inkjet refill kit for use with other ink cartridge types as well, and that is fine.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a few pieces of newspaper or a sheet of plastic to protect your working area from any ink spills.

    • 2

Fit the ink cartridge into the refill clip supplied in your refill kit to help stabilize the cartridge while you're working with it. If you don't have the refill clip, simply place the ink cartridge upright on the covered working surface.

    • 3

Poke the gimlet that comes in the refill kit through the hole at the top of the cartridge and turn it more than six times to make the hole large enough for the refill needle.

    • 4

Fit the ink injection needle on the ink container.

    • 5

Insert the needle deep into the hole you previously enlarged. Direct the needle straight toward the bottom of the ink cartridge.

    • 6

Press the plunger at the top of the injection needle, observing the scale markings on the barrel of the injection needle to check that you inject about 20 ml of ink into the ink container.

    • 7

Pull out the injection needle from the ink cartridge.

    • 8

Use the small suction syringe supplied with your refill kit to poke through the rubber hole at the bottom of the refill clip. If you are not using a refill clip, simply poke the syringe through the hole at the bottom of the ink cartridge. Suck out about 1 ml of ink from the ink cartridge to clean its nozzles.

    • 9

Remove the ink cartridge from the refill clip, and use a piece of lint-free paper towel to clean any excess ink left on the cartridge.
