Motorcycle Rack Mounting Instructions

Motorcycle Rack Mounting Instructions thumbnail
Dirt bikes can be mounted on a rack behind a truck when not in use for easier transport.

Motocross bikes, or dirt bikes, are smaller than other motorcycles, and many owners prefer to move their motorcycles from one location to another on a bike rack mounted to the back of their truck or sport utility vehicle. Rear-mounted bike racks are easy to install, and once in place, it's easy to load the bikes. Using only a few simple tools, you can load your bike onto the rack and secure it in place for transport in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the rack's mounting bracket into the auto's hitch mount and secure it with the pins or bolts provided.

    • 2

Insert the wheel-mounting pins into the rack if your bike has a small tire and your rack features an adjustable front wheel slot. The pin makes the slot smaller so that the tire doesn't slip as far into the rack.

    • 3

Place the ramp on the rack on the slot you wish to roll a bike onto for mounting.

    • 4

Roll the motorcycle up the ramp and onto the rack, pushing it forward so that the front wheel comes to rest in the front slot.

    • 5

Secure a ratcheting strap to the rack on one side of the motorcycle and attach the other end of the strap to the bike on a stable part, such as the frame of the handlebars.

    • 6

Crank the ratchet until the strap is tight.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 on the other side of the bike so there is a strap on either side of the bike.

    • 8

Repeat for any additional motorcycles being loaded on the rack.

    • 9

Secure the ramp on the rack again or put the ramp away for storage.
