How to Update a Microsoft Certificate

A Microsoft certificate--also known as a "Microsoft Root Certificate"--is essentially a digital "seal of approval" Microsoft applies to trusted third-party websites and applications. Ordinarily, the update of these certificates is done automatically by Windows. Occasionally, however, you may wish to manually update the certificates. In order to accommodate this, Microsoft has released a Manual Update package for Windows Root Certificates that can be downloaded and used free of charge.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your preferred Web browser and navigate to the Microsoft Root Certificate Updater download page. A link has been provided for you in the "Resources" section of this article.

    • 2

Download the updater package to your hard drive.

    • 3

Launch the updater package once it has finished downloading. It will automatically update any out-of-date certificates, and will also add any certificates that your computer does not already contain.
