How to Clear a Maintenance Light on a Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner is equipped with a maintenance reminder light that activates on the display at regular mileage intervals. The purpose of this maintenance light is to remind the driver when the 4Runner should be taken in for regular maintenance such as changing the engine oil. When a service technician performs the maintenance, he resets the light so it will not come on again until the next mileage interval. If the technician does not reset the light, or if the owner performs the maintenance himself, the light can be manually reset. These instructions pertain to the 2010 4Runner, but many previous model years use the same method.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the key into the ignition. Leave the engine turned off.

    • 2

Press and hold the trip odometer reset button.

    • 3

Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position.

    • 4

Release the trip odometer reset button when the trip meter displays "000000."

    • 5

      Turn the ignition switch off.
