1
Power on the device that you wish to program. You will need to do this manually or with the remote that came with the device. Make sure all other devices are turned off to prevent problems down the line.
-
2
Locate the codes for the brand of device, not the model, that you are attempting to program into your Sony universal remote. You can find a list of codes in the user's guide that came packaged with the remote or on the Sony support website. Write down all the codes that appear, as you may need to cycle through a few before you find one that works fully with your device.

3
Press and hold down the "S" button on your Sony universal remote control. While holding this button down, press and let go of the "Power" button at the top of the remote once. After pressing the "Power" button, release the "S" button to begin the programing process.
-
4
Press the mode button that corresponds to the type of device you are programming at the top of the remote. Do not hold it down.
-
5
Enter the first code that you found for your brand of device using the number pad in the center of the Sony remote control. After entering in each of the numbers, press the "Ent" button to save the code.
-
6
Press the "Power" button on the Sony remote. If the device you are programming turns off, turn it back on using the remote and test all of the buttons to make sure you can fully control your device. If you can, you are finished. If not, repeat the process using the next code on the list until you find a code that works with both the remote and the device.
