Brother USA is the U.S. arm of a Japanese manufacturing conglomerate that makes a variety of printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines and electronic labeling machines. Most of the printers fall under the all-in-one/multifunction product line.

      Turn on the machine.

      Select "scan type" from the pull-down menu.

      Select the gray scale. Choose "true gray" for copying or scanning photographs.

      Under "colors," set to 256-color capability, or 24-bit color, which scans up to 16.8 million colors.
