How to Export MSG Files to Windows Live Messenger

Microsoft Outlook uses MSG files to save email data such as the sender's email address, the message body and the date the email was sent and received. This data may become important if you need to use an email as a reference in a court case or for use in a project at work. Since Windows Live Messenger, an instant messenger program, allows file transfers, you can send MSG files to coworkers or lawyers from within the chat service. Once they receive the MSG files, they can open them using Outlook or other MSG viewers.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Live Messenger. Enter your user name and password and click the "Sign In" button.

    • 2

Double-click the name of the person you want to send the MSG files to. This will open a separate chat window with this person.

    • 3

Click the "Show Menu" button at the top right corner of the chat window. Hover over "File" and click "Send a single file" from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Browse to where your MSG file is stored. Click the file name once to highlight it. Click the "Open" button. Windows Live Messenger will contact the other user to ask him if he wants the file. When he says yes, the MSG file automatically downloads onto his computer.

Tips & Warnings
