How to Update an Nvidia Driver

Download your Nvidia video card's drivers to keep the device up to date.

Nvidia is the maker of various computer graphics cards, including the GeForce series of cards. These video cards enable you to watch your favorite videos and play your favorite games directly on your computer. Occasionally, Nvidia graphics cards receive updates in the form of drivers, which can improve performance and fix common problems.

Instructions

1. Open your computer's Web browser, and navigate to the Nvidia Driver Download Web page (see Resources). Locate the box titled "Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products." Click on the gray box titled "Graphics Drivers."

2. Wait as the Nvidia software searches your computer to determine the appropriate driver for your graphics card. Press the "Download" button to begin the download process and save the driver to your computer's desktop.

3. Double-click on the driver icon on your computer's desktop to begin the installation process. Accept all terms and agreements and wait as your Nvidia graphics card's drivers are updated. Exit out of the installer when the update is complete.

4. Click on the "Start" menu icon on the lower left of the screen, and hit "Restart" to reboot your computer. This will ensure that the update completes properly. Wait for your computer to power back on, and open a game or video of your choosing to ensure that the updated Nvidia graphics driver functions properly.

Tips & Warnings

• Temporarily suspend your computer's antivirus software during the driver update, as the antivirus program can corrupt the installation of your Nvidia driver.
