How to Disable Linksys PCMCIA Wireless Software

Windows XP users should use the wireless management software built in to the operating system whenever possible because the software provided with the Linksys PCMCIA card (and various other wireless cards) can cause conflicts with the operating system. These incompatibilities may produce errors and other network issues. To resolve such conflicts, you need to disable the Linksys wireless management software that is bundled with the wireless drivers on the product installation CD.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu and open the Control Panel. Select "Add/Remove Programs."

    • 2

Locate the Wireless G Linksys Notebook adapter on the drop-down list of options. Click on "Remove" and then click "OK" to confirm.

    • 3

Remove the Linksys PCMCIA wireless card connected to the laptop slot. Press the button next to the card and pull the card out.

    • 4

Restart the computer and reinsert the PCMCIA card. Wait for the prompt to appear asking for a driver, then click "Automatically select a driver." Windows will select a driver automatically and use the Windows wireless software instead of the Linksys proprietary driver.
