How to Reformat Windows XP SP2

You can reformat your hard drive and reload Windows XP SP2 if your installation is very slow, if it's infected with spyware or if you would like to clean out all personal data. This process, which is commonly known as reformatting, results in complete data loss to the Windows partition being erased and it cannot be reversed.

Instructions

      Back up all of the files that you would like to save from the Windows partition to another hard drive, removable media, network device or your preferred backup media.

      Open your system's optical drive bay and insert the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation disc.

      Restart the system and press a key during load to boot the Windows XP installation from the startup disc.

      Click "F8" to confirm the XP license agremeent and click "Next" to start the installation.

      Click "Down" to move the keyboard highlight over the current NTFS partition for Windows, click "D" and then click "L" to confirm the deletion of the partition.

      Click "Enter" when you have highlighted the empty partition space and then choose whether you would like to perform a quick or complete format. Complete formats check for existing data objects and attempt to insulate them from accidental modification.

      Wait while the format completes. This will wipe your hard drive of the Windows XP operating system.

      Wait for Windows 7. You will not be able to connect to later versions of Windows without access to Windwos XP and you will need to wait for additional Windows 7 navigation components.
