How to Transfer Internal Hard Drive Data

An internal hard drive is one connected directly to the internal SATA or IDE ports on your computer's motherboard, such as the system drive where Windows is installed. Transferring data and files off your internal drive to external drives on the system such as external hard drives or USB drives is necessary when you wish to create a backup of the files.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the target external destination drive into the system.

    • 2

      Right-click "Start" and click "Explore."

    • 3

      Click on the internal drive.

    • 4

Right-click on the file(s) to be transferred and click "Send to." Select your target external drive to move the files.
